I  AM  SHE

Like the Queensland bottle tree
I was treated as an ornamental feature
For ages
Though I was the shelter from storm
Tearing myself I quenched their thirst
Of heart
My dark sleepless hours turned all my
Bottled up tears and dreams into stars
To guide
Like the Queensland’s dreamy native
With my leafy desire I can now take root
Anywhere

  1. Oh, it is wonderful to have the ability to take root anywhere. Definitely a very comfortable place to be.

  3. This is a new tree to me! It totally works for me as a mother image, how it is beautiful and sheltering and made of extra water storage. Lovely then to move, to be able to root anywhere, intact and blooming.

  4. WOW! I so love the turning of tears and dreams into stars, and the being able to take root anywhere. Attributes of trees and women - reaching for the stars and strong at the root! Loved this.

  5. the bottle tree is a pretty cool thing....bottle trees were used as slave gave markers in some areas here in the states...like how you used bottle in a couple different contexts in this as well....

  10. Some wonderful images here. Like others, I like the the tears as stars and especially being able to take root anywhere. I am not familiar with the bottle tree, though we have a bottle brush tree/shrub. Thanks for posting and visiting.

  14. Sumana,

Life experiences give us character and shape our ways. I think there is great strength within the character of your poem. An ability to survive in any circumstance...

It takes a lot to get to that place - but mercifully, one can get there. I'm glad you did.

  18. Many things that are difficult make us stronger. And if we do not become as petrified wood, we can bend and adapt and be strong enough to take root anywhere. A lovely poem!

  19. Being able to take root anywhere is important. The majority of women in the world are not able to do this.
