                               Sleepless eyes

                    Work harder for a scoop

To feed thousand minds drooling in wait

The more spicy the happenings the more is the sale

           Drunkard causes Princess D’s demise?

                 Beehive world’s busy for

                             Breaking news

                          Sleepless eyes

                    Guard us on frontier

Desert storms and blizzards blow over

Enemy bullets often snuff out these lives

Unsung they return home in coffin

               No news channels for them

                         Our heroes

  1. What a contrast you have written between the two stanzas, Sumana: two different reasons for having 'sleepless eyes.' So very true that people always wait for that 'breaking news,' and I picture reporters vying to be THE one to break the next 'big' story. And then there are those often unsung heroes with sleepless eyes..the ones not a part of the big story...whose lives end way too young.

  2. There are indeed numerous unsung and anonymous heroes and they certainly get no news coverage while the rich and famous get a lot of attention. At the moment the future royal baby is the one that annoys me... And I am sure that once it is born, there will be speculations as to whether it looks like Diana. Sigh

  3. have to wonder at times if the reporters dont make the news as much as report on it....pretty sad when our heroes dont make the news....MONEY

  4. The contrast is really stark.... I would say that the world of paparazzi compared to the world of war and why is really difficult to cope with..

  5. Gossip-mongers, tabloid terrorists, sensation seekers--all have migrated to the news anchor desks. How do we filter out the chaff, the dishonesty, the overkill, the hypocrisy? With great effort came the reply.

  6. You painted two different words so skilfully - Loved this. Wonderful.

  7. Our news channel show those heroes and dead bodies being carried off the plane in tribute ~ I recall those crazy times when Lady Di was killed ~ Sadly the price of too much greed on news caused her life ~

  9. An interesting form, Sumana - I may look into it further, when I get a chance. And yes, I am often amazed at what makes the news and what is swept quietly under the rug.

  11. Wouldn't it be nice, if the major story considered news worthy was about the kindness of a human spirit instead of the tragedy often afflicted by people? Wonderfully written.

  13. So true.. and even more amazing to me.. all that attention give to that royal baby last year.. when true heroes were falling around the world.. with nether a sound to break their fall.. or memories...

But i suppose their loved ones...

heard the fall.. and called the heroes.. loud and clear.. in word of love.. instead of cold hard..hyperbolic news....

  15. This is so sad but true. Our news feeds are filled with stupid things when no one knows the names of the most recent soldiers that were killed for the sake of freedom.

  17. Our heros go unsung and unseen while unimportant or violent spectacles are blasted through the media.

I like and admire your use of form in the poem. Nice Sumana.

  20. You portray so much of the reality of the news services striving always to titillate us with stories often sugar coated. Well done Sumana.

  22. Very true. News is also what sells, and sadly that seems to be celebrity.

  23. Love the form! You also really hit the heart of the issue...one famous person gets so much press, but those who willingly lay down their lives for the sake of their country are largely ignored.

  24. You hit this on straight on, and said it so well.
