Wonders

source

So many times in this life I said, wow

Because of the things I read, heard men say

All of them compelled my wonder to bow

Every century Earth’s rotations slow

Dinosaurs saw twenty three hours a day

So many times in this life I said wow

Dying stars smell like seared steak, astronauts vow

While raspberry scent comes out of Milky Way

All of them compelled my wonder to bow

Cosmic Soul’s sense of humor is not low

His cloud of alcohol is there to stay

So many times in this life I said wow

This big bubble called universe is now

Moving, keeping its countless bros at bay

All of them compelled my wonder to bow

Humans destroy and build, let love, hate grow

Bards cannot lie so sing them in their lay

So many times in this life I said, wow

All of them compelled my wonder to bow

  2. Indeed, I think we can never lose that ability to say WOW to things that we see and think about. There are so many wonderful things; but I am definitely hoping that love will grow more than hate.

  3. I find the universe quite awe inspiring - and it is interesting as I can't figure it out. I was walking through the woods once and felt such an overpowering awe I took my shoes off. And I have been in crowds and felt the same.

  6. A very interesting tone to this poem, which gradually drifts towards helplessness and sardonic inquiry, in an almost flippant style. Well done.

  7. absolutely wow. still a large part of the world is undiscovered and expect more wows to follow. also, some studies of the past could give us another wow too.

  8. How important it is for poets to be social commentators as you suggest. Biographies and history books tend to warp the truth which poets may well correct and be unearthed in future times.

  9. The sheer scale of everything is daunting to think about. Bowing wonder is appropriate.

  16. Love how you move it into almost senseless wows. The universe can outshine all the things that men can do. Accomplished villanelle

  24. Our world is so filled with amazing things to see, smell, taste, and know. That child-like awe may carry us through the most difficult times, and allow us to know why we continue,

  25. I was enthralled from beginning to end...I say wow a lot as I wonder at the world and all that happens, all we learn and so much we still don't know.

  26. Love how "so many times I said wow" is said so many times in this form. And the rhyming bow/wow works so well with it too as you mix the good, the bad and the ugly--as some simply have to sing their wow into oblivion! You, poet, sing the truth. I bow to you! wow!

  27. Wow! This is wonderful - and extremely edifying. It sent my mind on a cosmic journey ... I haven't landed yet. Smiles.

  28. Wonder should never just be the prerogative of a child. Take the wonder and the child throughout life. A lovely poem.

  31. Sumana,

And how many times we think we have truly seen it all; then amazement takes over, when another wonder is revealed..The joys of life never cease!
