In between glum sky
And dewy eyed, listless Earth
My tulip dreams spread
Grief is the shadowy hill
The sole silent onlooker

Oh Sumana, this is so very tender and beautiful..! Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
I understand this one, Sumana. It is so very possible to feel the grief, yet enjoy the beauty of the tulips. Sometimes life is a balance, isn't it? But we hope that the field of tulips spreads and spreads.
ReplyDeleteOh, this reaches right into my heart, the listless earth, the shadowy hill of grief, and the hopeful tulips. So beautiful, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, and profound.
ReplyDeleteWe everything seems lost, only the lucky ones (the ones with a beautiful heart) find strength in the beauty of the tulips. The alternative is to be consumed by grief... and that helps no one.
ReplyDeleteTulip dreams! How perfect.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad.
ReplyDeletebeautiful :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mary, life is indeed about balance. This is touching and at the same time hopeful poem, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos at the pantry. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely...
ReplyDeleteI think we can always turn to the natural world to seek comfort and sympathy. So well envisaged.
ReplyDeleteSomething sad happened here.
ReplyDeleteThose tulip dreams really are radiant..they are working hard against the shadow of that hill
ReplyDeleteFrom time to time, despite the grief we feel, still we manage to find a place or something from which we can pull out some inspiration to be happy. I hope the spreading Tulips have loaned you more than enough happiness you need. :)
ReplyDeleteThis drop of beauty in the midst of sadness at least is some small consolation. Fortunately there is room for dreams to spread farther.
ReplyDeleteThere is always that ray of sunshine even in the darkest hour, nice picture and writing!
ReplyDeleteI fully do understand this Sumana... the tension between sorrow and beauty.... Mary has expressed it so well.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing sight...I feel that heart break between the beauty of the flowers, and the hope that their spreading joy will quell the sorrow we feel....it is why I find nature gives me solace....truly quite beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is such a lovely contrast. Beauty and sorrow all mixed together. Well put!
ReplyDeletethe last two lines were so thoughtful. Amazing poetry :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you do see beauty within your grief Sumana. This is a lovely, touchin poem.
ReplyDeleteThis is truly lovely Sumana....a new favorite for me of yours!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and graceful depiction of the tender balance between grief and hope...so fragile and delicate.
ReplyDeleteAnd when the tulips bloom,
ReplyDeleteThey'll drive away all the grief & the gloom :)
Bravo!

ReplyDeletelovely contrasts here
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Stunning and beautiful. Grief can be a shadowy hill for a very long time,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
My take on this poem is this: It is good to have a witness to our grief, even if it is a silent hill.
ReplyDeleteThe colours (including the grey) were beautifully portrayed in your poem
ReplyDelete"Grief is the shadowy hill"- yes, it's always there, but the vibrancy of spring ousted it for the time being..
ReplyDeleteBeautifully penned, Sumanadi... :-)
Oh my, is so few words you express the contradiction of what is apparent to most--the beauty of spring--and how it is experienced by the sorrowing. Touching.
ReplyDeleteSpring can seem to me a very sad season, Sumana. Your poem captures perfectly my melncholy mood during Spring.
