THERE ARE THINGS WE KEPT SECRET AFTER….

courtesy ; google image

In this facebook age
When the flaming desire
To Reveal All rules
Isn’t it a miracle
That we still have some
Fragrant moments of joy
And salty painful hours
Unblemished and pristine
Only to ourselves
Saved from a thousand glare
Unseen Peepal roots travel deep with joys and tears
There are things we kept secret after all these years

  1. In my opinion everything should be kept secret from facebook, but I am in the minority. My belief in privacy is an out-dated concept. Thanks for participating in the challenge, Sumana.

  2. honestly.. i minimize the information that i give away on social media... they just use it for their purpose... as the place where i'm living i have filled in new york on fb - and since then i'm getting those requests if i wanna rent my new york flat while away on holidays...ha... it's good to have a bit of privacy in our lives and those things we share only with a few people we trust..

  4. So true, Sumana. It seems we are more and more in a 'tell all' kind of world. So much is is shared that in the past would be kept private. And I think young people grow up in this world thinking that this is the way it should be, as it is all they know. Thanks for sharing with Poets United, Sumana. You always have an interesting perspective.

  5. Yes...privacy seems to be a very outmoded concept....anything you put on the net including emails is not private...everyone should be aware of that fact!

  6. A thought provoking poem..I have never participated in FB I know I am the minority but, I guess I cannot miss something I never had and I sort of like it like that.

  7. very well stated. it's a gift to trust someone with a secret that won't be showed off on Facebook. :)

    Great poem Sumana. <3

  8. Of course, there should be secret as well as cover-removable things in one's life.Social media is good with reasonable restrictions.Meaningful and lovely.

  9. Sumana, this is so true. In a society who now revels in revealing every little intimate secret of a life, it's wonderful to keep some things completely and utterly private.

  14. I so resonated with this - yes, privacy seems to have gotten misplaced, everyone is so connected to their devices. Telling all! It's why I dont want devices. I prefer communing with the trees.

  15. I find that a few years ago my students were more aware of the need to protect their privacy than they do now. And I agree that they share things that belong to the private sphere. "fragrant moments of joy / And salty painful hours" - these should indeed remain private.

  16. Facebook is fun, but I share myself by sharing images, thousands of them gathered from across the full spectrum of the Net, & from my own digital photo album, sharing other's quotes, my poetry, other's poetry; for I do agree with you that those who log in how many times they use the toilet, or how a date went, or who they hate/love/flirt with should get a real life.

  17. I truly agree. those moments we savour.. though I think facebook is also filled with lies and half-truths.. maybe we have even more secrets in these days...

  18. Yes, there seems to be a rush to bare all we are on social media...so thankful there are moments of secrets that remain only ours to walk through

  19. " Only to ourselves
    Saved from a thousand glare"

    - what an exquisite thought, Sumana!

  21. It is important to keep some things to ourselves, those don't need to be secrets so much as personal treasures. And each of us must learn the difference between honesty and reality at our own pace. I also think that those of us who write have deeper issues with this experience.

  22. I love the photo and thoughts. I blog everyday but still keep secrets, or should I say keep some things private.

  23. There has to be certainly. FB as it is is all too revealing. One keeps some for oneself for posterity! Nicely Samana!

  28. Yes, there are times when we are blessed more by the Unseen than by all the meaningless things that we see each day. Beautiful poem!

  29. I agree, it feels good to keep some nuggets of secret joy (and sometimes sorrow) buttoned up. I loved the natural flow of this poem.
