APRIL-13
The Potato Eaters by Vincent Van Gogh
Spirit is breathless
Scanning and following rhythm
Plunge into free verse
Perspectives and lines
Grammatical art and craft
Potato Eaters* smile
Classic notes rule well
No strumming, drumming, humming
Add words and bring joy
Black calendar dates
To tie us up with routine
Sunday is red…YAY
*: 'Let them prattle on about technique as much as they like in their pharisaic, hollow, hypocritical terms--true painters are guided by the consciousness known as sentiment. Their souls, their minds are not there for the brush, the brush is there for their minds'………this was Vincent Van Gogh’s reaction to the critics who failed to appreciate Van Gogh’s sincerity to portray peasants” at their most purest and most primitive living in harmony with their unspoiled natural environment”.

This took some giant leaps in my head, but left me with a smile on my face. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour poem evokes lots of thought, Sumana. I think Van Gogh proved his critics wrong....
ReplyDeleteHis writing sounds even more to the point in the original Dutch.
ReplyDeleteBTW,I never thought of the people round the lamp as smiling. Maybe I missed something.
Never realized how effective haiku can be when strung together like this. Well done.
you are right jo-hanna...they never smiled but the creator of the potato eaters did when appreciated duly..

i will take a red day if it means there is less to do and jus tmore to enjoy
ReplyDeleteMore often than not it is a denial when they refuse to understand fully the situation and shove their way through! Nicely Sumana!

ReplyDeleteA celebration...I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI especially like that final line :) ~
ReplyDeleteThis painting resonates with me which I frist saw as a child. It shrieked poverty fatigue injustice and togetherness.A work of art may be technically clever but if it does not emit feeling it has failed.
ReplyDeleteI loved each one of it Sumana...
ReplyDeleteAnd the last one brought a smile in my face :)
Each line is so beautifully written Sumana....Well done! :)
