FATHER’S DAY

Nothing
can bring that loving voice
That
is lost in the womb of Time
Only
the memories still chime
Those
sonorous words of great choice
“I
want to see you”, he would say
Obligations
tied up my feet
On
two vacations we would meet
My
grieving heart’s silent today

Yes a day like that many of us remember that silence...
ReplyDeleteOne gets overly protected when dad's around. And somehow one gets only part of his time and he's gone! Nicely Sumana!
ReplyDeleteHank
Yes, Sumana, fathers are very protective. Very nicely written.
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised you miss your dad, and also his voice. The voice of our fathers often speak of protection and love.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been my dad's birthday yesterday. Very touching.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Sumana ~ My father wants us to visit him but we can't oblige as my folks are halfway in the other side ~ Very apt for today ~
ReplyDeleteOn this day I too miss my father. I think we think about the time we had with our fathers as well as the opportunities we missed. A poignant poem, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem -- how different obligations feel in retrospect. Also works well with the form. K.
ReplyDeleteoy we have to see them when we can...because we are not promised tomorrow....and ugh...its hard....we have to listen and know....you know...its hard...
ReplyDeleteLuv this please remember my Sunday mere is on, so you can add your link when you visit

happy fathers day!! its touching beautiful...
ReplyDeleteHobbled and feeling powerless to say "I have something I must do," has been a major regret in my life too. There isn't much I would wish to do differently, but putting those I love before work and career is one.
ReplyDeletethis is just sweet and short...a memory of a loving father. very nice Sumana. I love your sincerity.
ReplyDeleteheartfelt - how much you miss him -I understand completely - K
ReplyDeleteI hope the reunion would be soon & favorably long enough to cherish your time together. Happy Father's day to your Dad! Smiles.

A very nice tribute to a special person.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad truth that once we have left our family homes and given our lives over to obligations, the number of times we see our parents decreases to perhaps once a year.. then you may count the years as an indication of how many more chances you will have to spend time with them. Often we only realize this too late.
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating in the Sunday Form Challenge. Your octave works very well in expressing your love of Father.
What a lovely and poignant tribute to your dad. I am always so thankful that I had a chance to spend all my years till he died with him. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteA fine tribute to your father. I think we all have regrets of things not done or said...
ReplyDeleteAnna
Wonderful tribute, Sumana. I am sure you were looking forward to those two times. At first I was afraid he was delivering bad news to you but it turned out very nice. My Dad too is silent, he died in 2007 at age 97.
ReplyDelete..
sad yet fine ~
ReplyDeleteawwwww.
ReplyDeleteLost in the womb of time...such somber feel to this...my heart goes out to you.
