LIGHT AND DARK

Spectacular seasons
Come and go
No unfulfilled promise
Do they show
There is joy in living
There is joy in dying
A death is a birth
They utter in mirth
They are words of the
Passage of time
In darkness and light
Do they chime

smiles....light and dark are often what we make of them...the shadow of a tree can be as sweat as the kiss of the sun on our skin...and death as much a relief as life...
ReplyDeleteWow, Sumana! Sometimes I feel us on the same wave length. I like the ending words so much: show, mirth, chime ... Let me feel part of all of them, and of the joy too. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe simplicity of your words is deceptively brilliant and shows so much knowing of life..and death...darkness and light..illuminating!
ReplyDeleteSimple, precise, beautiful
ReplyDeleteNo unfulfilled promises, just joy and mirth. Something to take with me on my journey today.
ReplyDeleteLife cycles, light and dark, seasons passing, birth and death.....I love "no unfulfilled promise".
ReplyDeleteNot easy to retain this optimism in the face of death.
ReplyDeleteBut we carry death within us from birth. Well said with unusual rhyme words as a treat.
Darkness and light indeed do chime, Sumana. We can't have one without the other. I think we all need to find joy in the dying.....in order to make sense of the living. I always enjoy your poetry, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteI love the passages of time you convey so eloquently here. Happy Wednesday to you (well maybe it is Thursday)
ReplyDeleteEverything tells its story with mirth: darkness and light, birth and death, opposing and conjunctive. Words that sing the story... thank you for them.
ReplyDeleteLove the peacefulness in your poem, feels good :)x
ReplyDeletebeautiful Sumana..i liked the last lines..very reflective ones
ReplyDeleteCome what may life goes on.lovely message..in your poem
ReplyDeleteThe last para takes the cake. Beautiful poem, Sumana... may these simple pearls of wisdom inspire and empower all of us!
ReplyDeleteAt present I confess that I struggle with the idea of finding joy in dying. Hopefully this will change. I liked how your poem made me think, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteThere is joy in living and no joy in dying. I have seen people die...it is awful!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't help but wonder if you meant reincarnation in the line: death is a birth cause I am studying Hinduism and Buddhism at the moment and did a paper on it. But anyway, love the simplicity and the reference to the seasons.
ReplyDeleteSeasons of years and life passing certainly do reflect light and dark. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteLife and birth..light and dark...I love the sweet rhyming... :-)
ReplyDeleteA death is a birth, I admire the courage to face and accept this ~
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this very much...dark and light, passage of the seasons, birth/death. You have captured so much.
ReplyDeleteThe ultimate contrasts!
