Broken

Those iridescent pearl drops

Shoot rainbow

Each one a memory

Of the wave

That rose once upon a time

In a heart

That hid an emerald sea

Where a water nymph

Spoke in the language

Of promise

A twine of love

Labored hard

To string each dream piece

Building up takes a life time

Not breaking

Almost like the snipping

Of a stray lock of hair

Within minutes

The cord is pieced

But iridescent memories

Remain forever

  1. those memories do...and the shaping of a pearl...much like the making of a diamond makes for an interesting process...neither gentle...and the pearl begins as a grain of sand...irritating....and then layered

  2. I do like the idea that iridescent memories last forever. I think that each pearl carries its heritage with it..

  3. Some say pearls are formed out of the tears of mermaids, from being broken to a thing of beauty.

  9. Sumana,

I hate that time when a string of pearls or beads snaps, and rolls away...Never quite the same when eventually restrung!! But, it is the memories from times when the pearls were worn, that counts!!!

  10. "iridescent memories Remain forever" - what a lovely thought. Special memories do take on a kind of luminescent glow, don't they.

  14. If it keeps memories alive that is a great thing to have. More so the aesthetic value it carries. Great lines Sumana!

  15. Well done, Sumana. I really like "twine of love" and the line "Building up takes a lifetime". It seems like this poem is saying that the fruits of love do not happen overnight but instead take much work and dedication. I fully agree.
