You Are My Looking Glass
You are my looking glass
I view myself on your visage
I am happy when you smile
And your sadness is mine
When you stand like a rock
Against the stormy sea
My tender mass hardens
I become a rock like you
We both sustain on each other
Till- THAT- do us part

being the rock for each other in the hard times....that is a blessing...the last line is a bit of caution to me. because taking on too much the feeling of others can destroy those rocks over time...
ReplyDeleteYes, that last is a game changer after all of the first. If it is our own, it is the last reflection of all. She who mirrors is also mirrored, though, and at times it is difficult to know who initiates, isn't it? A somber, brilliant wisdom poem with a startling end. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSumana, most of your poem speaks of the wonderful relationship that you had; and the last line is heartbreaking...but oh, so real.
ReplyDeleteI love sustaining each other, that the rock is both of you. Great capture.
ReplyDeleteNice reflection and Oneness here.
ReplyDeleteIt is good when two people can be strong enough to help each other. Beautiful, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteSumana, a symbol of the dearest of friends that endures alongside of us.
ReplyDeleteThe mirror can be both an enemy and a friend. In both cases it will tell the truth.
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess if we only lean on our own image, something is bound to shatter, and we must part ways. Interesting write Sumana.
ReplyDeletemirror reflects the truth ...shattered glass cannot be repaired..well written
ReplyDeleteYes a solid state in any relationship stands up to many a test and can bring much contentment...
ReplyDeleteGreat metaphor use.
ReplyDeleteI love the give and take and support in a relationship. Balancing one another out brings so much strength. Lovely write, Sumana :)

Good to have a trusted friend like that in life... one who gives back the reflection that one would want to see!!
ReplyDeleteWonderfully penned, Sumana!
Sumana,
ReplyDeleteI suppose we are both good friend and foe to our own selves, when viewed in the mirror. No-one can really change our opinion, once we have fixed upon our own gaze..

That is so true of a loving life partner. I don't know how people make a go of living life, alone. It must be much, much harder with no one there to cushion the mental anguish of those inevitable dark days.
