My Philosophy of Connection

I connect with a rock

Not because it knows

The meaning of hardness

And endurance

But only for the reason

That it exists

I too exist

Thus I learn

To connect with all

  1. L.O.V.E. Reminds me of "The Cloud of Unknowing"--why limit what we can learn from connecting with anything?

  2. The rock is hard, will endure the storms and will make for a firm foundation - but maybe not a great bed for the sick to lay on, a bandage for a wounded solider. We have our hardnesses and our softnesses for a reason. And if we understand our own purpose, we can use them to meet it. Nice short piece.

  3. ah - a rock is a sure foundation and will not break easily in a storm - for me it needs both - the soft and the firm - the unmovable and the adaptable

  5. Yes we exist and we're connected and that's marvelous. How lucker than the rock we are because we can be aware of this.

  6. profound - I'll have to think on this one. A good poem stays with us and makes us think.

  9. You know, if everyone felt this way, we would do something about global warming, & balance the scales of justice. Zen philosophers belief that in some reincarnations, some souls choose to come back as a tree, or a rock; it is so lovely there are a few of us who appreciate the gesture.

  11. Beautiful. Last night I read that if you look at a rock, you are looking at a million years of history. True.

  13. I like this poem very much, Sumana. Truly I believe we can connect with everything. Whether living or dead, animate or inanimate, we can find a connection with all that exists in our world.

  15. Succinctly put, in a very Buddhist (or Jainist) way, that inter-connection between all creatures and things, great and small.

  16. I love the brevity of this deep truth--we are all one.

  17. On my trip to the west a few years back, rocks that caught my attention were the souvenirs I brought back. One that was heart shaped from my sister's in Az. and one from the Crazy Horse Monument for example. They mean more to me than anything I could buy in a tourist spot.

  18. Wise words. We need more connections based on humanity, the common need to be loved and cared for.
