The beggar mother croons
A moon-song to her child
Its happy lips become that crescent
The sparrow finds a shade
Under a fig leaf
While Mother Nature lovingly sings
Her rain-song
The eternal Romeo and Juliet
Whisper love-song
Drenched in moonbeams
Martyrs caught in the web of hatred
Could only breathe love
Love is Beauty, Beauty Love
We need to breathe it
To survive

Your poem shows us the many kinds of beauty one can find in this world! Yes, we do need to breathe it in. It is there for us if only we see.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. I wrote something similar for the weekend on the need for love - it sustains us, but our culture right now is def not one that supports it. Love the nature touches.
ReplyDeleteI agree and wish I could have voiced it as well as you.
ReplyDeleteIndeed we do! A beautiful poem on the subject of Beauty.
ReplyDeleteso much beauty everywhere, we need an eye to catch it!
ReplyDeleteLove is Beauty, Beauty Love
ReplyDeleteWe need to breathe it
To survive
Love this! Indeed love is one of the greatest forms of beauty.

ReplyDeletehave a good Wednesday Sumana
much love
To love is so calming so fulfilling the beauty of life bursts from us in joy.
ReplyDeleteLove overcomes. But not many realize this until they run foul of love's puzzling outcomes.
ReplyDeleteHank
There is nothing sadder than beggar mothers with their children in the street....I will never see beauty in that...just feel a great sense of disgust and shame because it is only through greed and indifference it exists.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% but love of a mother and that of the child is something beyond poverty and it's true such love does exist in such hapless condition and often lacks in homes of the affluent...moreover beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
DeleteA beautiful portrait of the mother and son ~ Love & Beauty, we need them to survive ~
ReplyDeleteSo true! Love is beauty.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful poem, Sumana :)
This is so incredibly lovely, Sumana. Love the crescent moon lips of the happy well-loved child. Love the moon-song and the rain-song. Sigh. Just beautiful.

ReplyDeleteYes beauty must be inhaled. I love your words here Sumana.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, yes love is beautiful and we need more of it.
ReplyDeleteOh yes.. that beauty I'm very particular too.. wonderful
ReplyDeleteThis has such a gentle way of trailing down the page...each line is powerful on its own...lovely work and thank you, for the challenge, Sumana.
ReplyDeleteThe love of a mother for a child is beautiful and in this poignant and layered rending, one is reminded that beauty and love can be found in even the most dire of human conditions. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful poem, Sumana. Beauty is all around us, but we need to have beauty in our soul to see it...
