Boredom

source

Time knows

How to bore an empty me to death

When I don’t feel like doing anything

Not even fill time with words

Then

Words don’t come to me easily

I look askew

I don’t like

The framed grey sky’s look

Where has its smile gone to?

The sun is hidden

So will be the stars

So will be my Muse

I want a forget-me-not sky

To pour all my lost similes,

Lost smile

But I told you already

Words don’t come to me easily

These times

  1. Oy, the weather can def have an effect on our mood and our desire to do much of anything. After so many grey days you almost have to pull yourself up by your boot straps to get moving. Sometimes you just have to write your way out of those places.

  2. Don't worry the words are there waiting for you to pluck them and eat them up. They will tempt you soon.

  4. But maybe they do...this poem seems rich and full to me - a clever use of language and thought...and it is always better when the sky smiles

  5. maybe words are on vacation, take time to relax too just like the words. next time you know that you can't stop accommodating words

  6. Sounds more like grumpiness than boredom, but hey, I am not an authority ... Sometimes we want to lose ourselves in activity--even writing, when our heart wants rest and an end to sadness. Perhaps grey skies and sadness ARE boring. Hmm. I'm beginning to get it. Wow!

But it will eventually. It takes a holiday at the wrong time. Great lines Sumana and thanks for the prompt!

  12. It is really hard when one is bored. The sun is hidden and so is everything else. If one feels bored, it is hard to do anything at all except think about how bored one is. And in the time of most boredom, it is definitely hard to do anything at all with words.

  13. Oh dear, a bit of a vicious cycle there! Yet I see the words did come, however difficult. (Smile.)

  14. When we’re bored, our mind’s typical reaction is to let itself wander off into loose threads hanging around ..ohh. ..how.i love the imagery of the 'forget me not'sky, Sumana. Beautiful piece.

  15. A wandering mind is much easier to have when bored.

  16. Hmmm your poem delves (nicely) into the cause of why our pens are dry. I was just talking to a fellow writer and I realized when I get too busy I have wipe the slate clean (including my writing)

  17. As I thought when reading someone else's poem, Sumana, boredom can be a reflection of other deeper issues: Depression, writer's block, stress, psychological impasses... Doing nothing, remaining inert and "bored" is often an easy solution - rather than dealing with the other issues...
    I liked the poem!
