Fire
In this fiery place I dwell
Where the blue is blazing
Flowers are still on fire
Flame of life flickering
Where the blue is blazing
Ember of grief lingers
The soul is smoldering
Flowers are still on fire
Bees, butterflies rushing
Thinking honey-days as never ending
Flame of life flickering
Dreaming of celestial fire of love
To wrap the burning soul

Oh Oh Oh! May we not have relief here on earth? The triolet, with its flareups, is a particularly beautiful form for these flames that flicker but never go out. The optimism of butterflies and bees has nowhere to land.
ReplyDeleteAh, Sumana....I really love your trimeric (smiles) & the progression of the stanzas. I do hope as the flame of life flickers one does feel that fire of love all encompassing....
ReplyDeleteThis is most beautiful - and soulful . The fire, the grief, and the life-force of the bees and butterflies "thinking honey-days as never ending." Thank heaven for the hopefulness of bees and butterflies. I especially love your closing. Beautifully done, my friend.
ReplyDeletePowerful images and metaphors. I was particularly struck by: Ember of grief ... so small - yet so visceral. An eloquent description.
ReplyDeleteGot the feeling of some sadness and devastation but hope in the form of divine love and healing. Beautifully expressed. This poem grows on you with each reading.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful blaze of a poem!
ReplyDeleteLove the way it climaxed!
ReplyDeleteOur emotions do burn, sometimes smouldering, sometimes warmly, then flaring with passion and finally turning to ash. But there is nothing like the fire of love. Beautifully done Sumana.
ReplyDeleteDreaming of celestial fire of love
ReplyDeleteTo wrap the burning soul
Beautiful closing lines :D
I think this plays wonderfully with the notion of fire being both friend and foe..fire is passion and grief - and i hope also remembrance and hope...
ReplyDeleteLike the idea of flowers being on fire..works at so many levels.
ReplyDeleteSo skilfully crafted Sumana; this passion of fire and life; hope surely is the instinct of seasons
ReplyDeletemuch love...

There are occasions when one is engulfed with lots of misfortune that lingers and never seem to go away. And these would come one after the other!

Dwelling in a fiery place is never easy, but often necessary.
ReplyDeleteHoly Fire
This is beautiful. I love its reference both to life's grief and to life's expectations. Your poem progresses much like life, building on itself. Enjoyed the serenity in it too.
ReplyDeleteOh yes ~ as beautiful as the hope of those bees and butterflies. Just marvellous work x
ReplyDeleteA wonderful form to employ especially for the topic...carries an eternal flavor. Really beautiful. Thank you, for the prompt, Sumana!

ReplyDeleteI like the hopeful contrasted against the dismal reality. There is always hope isnt there for warm honey days?
ReplyDeleteSumana,
ReplyDeleteSuch a powerful symbol of life's emotions and then the mysterious and the comfort in its flicker and warmth..An excellent prompt Sumana.
