Ah.. the reindeer people of North perhaps the first domesticated herd animal of all.. such a part of life.. a power animal that is life for human then..:)
I read a wonderful book about the reindeer herders, the Sumi people in Scandinavia, and they do indeed feel this passion for their animals and follow them across borders. You capture that so well and so succinctly.
Your poem has expressed the joy of creation. I wonder if early man looked at his works with joy in the same way that artists do today, or if they even realized they were 'art.'
The joy of creation, the identification of an animal with ones soul - this truly makes me wonder about these people of before and wish I could know more of them. If they didn't think of it as art but of documentation, like we take photographs, it still amazes me the care they took, the forms. Your poem so wonderfully gets inside that creative joy.
Like Mary, I wonder if there were any stone age musings about Art, or perhaps just a drive, a need, to record the goings on. I think this glyph is of a moose, but that might just be me.
