Courage

It’s an effort to breathe
Without cease
When each moment
Strives to stifle
It’s giving, embracing
Without a complaint
Everyday
It’s the gentle breeze
Of candle light
Blowing away
The dusty darkness
It’s burning, melting
Without a stir
Every night
Ah - courage to take just one more breath! Yes, sometimes life is like that....when even the next breath seems a struggle to be overcome.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Indeed, it takes incredible courage to get through life without complaint and to face everything that it throws at you.
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
courage is a constant challenge - solid piece Sumana.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it does take courage, to breathe, to keep on giving. Well said, Sumana. I especially like the second stanza.
ReplyDeleteTakes real courage as your first verse says to strive without complaint
ReplyDeleteThanks for a very stirring prompt today
Much love...
It does take courage to live. And yes, each breath burns us like a candle. It does give us life but brings us closer to death.
ReplyDeleteAlways that pesky death lurking in the background...
DeleteOh! You have my admiration in this. I breathe so easily that I forget, I forget the effort and challenge and courage of a single breath. Wow.
ReplyDeleteExcellent to liken each breath to the lit candle...life and its wick...an eventual end...does the light get snubbed or does the life proceed to the end of its wick? Poignant.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful....just love the concluding lines. Heart warming piece, Sumana!
ReplyDeleteYes sometimes even breathing feels like a challenge..i love the candle flame in the second verse..fragile and yet courageous
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful it was to read your words Sumana.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, it is all that you mentioned. Courage is another valuable gift from the Divine for us. :)
ReplyDeleteIt seems there are so many varieties of courage!
ReplyDeletewow...wow...wow
ReplyDeletesimply amazing the way you described courage
specially these words
"It’s giving, embracing
Without a complaint
Everyday"
Simply loved it!
Life does take courage! So very good!
ReplyDeleteLife can deal such immense pain, Sumana, that each breath can seem to be our last and each inspiration of life-giving air can turn to poisonous fumes in our lungs. Somehow, we can find the courage to survive and carry on and light a candle in order to dispel the darkness that surrounds us... A lovely piece, but oh, so sad...
ReplyDeleteSumana,
ReplyDeleteI like this perspective about courage, as I understand that notion of breathing one's last...I used to suffer with that dreadful sensation during very stressful times; I'd awake from sleep gasping to breathe, thinking it was my last...It took courage to try and reassure myself.
