THE LAST
Was it ordinary or
extraordinary
I don’t know
But it relieved some
And brought tears
to others
This went on for generations
It wasn’t loved but respected
For its incredible pace
But Time’s tyrannical hands
Played a fatal move
By replacing it with faster toys
So now good bye Telegram
Rest in Peace
After a mammoth service
period of 163years
In my land
We have heard of a promise
That the last telegram
Will be preserved as a museum piece
Your Requiem………

ReplyDeleteSimple things become complex...
ReplyDeleteOh my I did not realize telegrams were a thing of the past but it makes perfect sense. I like the idea of the last telegram being a museum piece. Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteRIP
ReplyDeleteTelegram remembered in your words. We all had but forgotten about it... and eventually recalled on the last day that it was once a popular communication instrument.
ReplyDeleteWell-penned. :-)
-HA
The promise is the thing we hold on to This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteHow intriguing. During war years, the telegram was so feared........such an important and - then - fast way of sending a message - now we tap on the keys and our words cross the planet in seconds. Cool topic.
ReplyDeleteWould kids even know what the telegram was if they saw it in a museum? Maybe, if we text an explanation to them!
ReplyDeleteI do not think I have seen more than a couple of telegrams in my life and I have never sent one. I do not know whether they still exist here actually. You make me wonder.
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought about telegrams in a long time. Your poem made me think & wonder if one can still send them. I remember my parents got one or two when I was a kid, but since then I haven't encountered them at all. I agree that the last telegram should be preserved in a museum!!
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought of telegram... how creative of you.
ReplyDeleteit's sad to see these things go by....and I am afraid that newspapers will soon go the same way....
ReplyDeleteFirst the post card and now telegram! How modern methods of communications are driving away the old ! they will remain in our memory for some time and then fade away, This is life!
ReplyDeleteit was the connection, the words it carried that made it so special...that is for sure...smiles.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is really creative! Excellent take!:)
ReplyDeleteTelegrams. I remember my dad sending them to my mother when he was traveling..... thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI had almost forgotten about telegrams. It's amazing how different it is for us nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWe Indian are very emotional about the telegram - an apt poem.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that postcards have gone the way of the telegram. Much more personal than an email. Cever take on the prompt.
ReplyDeletecommunication changes faster every day....sometimes i really want to move back and slow down the fast paced world we live in and save more of the old....nice poem
ReplyDeleteIt is good to remember these things..i guess one day we will be lamenting the loss of blogging!
