APRIL-14
The King of Cats, 1935, Balthus

                                                                    (self-portrait)

The brush was his vehicle
To take him
To the mysterious world
Of Color and canvas
And place him there
Forever
He hadn’t forgotten
To take with him
That voyeur feline
They will stare
For centuries
And enjoy visits
To them
Be aware

  1. oooo! Bravo! A creepy poem of supernatural visitations that doesn't have me running for cover! I will look at portraits of people and their familiars differently from now on.

  3. Hauntingly good to think how one can live through times in a craft well mastered. Smiles.

  8. Love your interpretation...all of us are leaving brushstrokes...time will tell if the future will see anything of our painting.

  10. This is an interesting take on a painting. I especially enjoyed the perspective of acknowledging them enjoying visits for centuries. Very cool.

  13. A neat little piece of ekphrasis that pins down the notion of the work of hours enduring forever.
