PLACES

Small space always interests me a lot

The world is infinite to the small me

So I nurture a me-space in my heart

Where tree-dreams blossom to take their wings

Baobabs beside the Zambezi beckon

The world is infinite to the small me

Those dewy eyes will never let me run

Seeing me her frail frame flutters in joy

Baobabs beside the Zambezi beckon

The night long journey to her makes my day

Dreamy Africa slowly disappears

Seeing me her frail frame flutters in joy

Even longest day sheds its light I fear

Yellow blooms on my doorsteps catch my eye

Dreamy Africa slowly disappears

I behold the sinking tangerine ray

Small space always interests me a lot

Yellow blooms on my doorsteps catch my eye

So I nurture a me-space in my heart

  3. Africa with all the mysteries and unique happenings. Somehow it may be the playground of the famous and rich with lots of spare cash. Otherwise discoveries are just waiting for others to know better! Great write Sumana!

  4. A space like that sounds wonderful - I have never visited Africa but I think I would prefer places where nature is big and I can see more stars than people.

  5. in the tinest atoms, the smallest of volumes, yet it consists of almost all empty space. Perhaps that's where love resides.

I like the sinking tangerine ray but love the Baobabs beckoning - lovely words about a wonderful place.

  10. You've done something lovely (and difficult) with the form here--the dreamlike repetition--and given us beautiful visuals.

  11. I dream of Africa, like I dream of Scotland; your poetic perspective, starting within, reducing the start of the journey to the level of atoms, or inner reserves, is very creative; nice job with the prompt.

  14. That "me-place" in my heart--that's what I was aiming for in mine. Wherever we are is the best. You nailed it!

  16. When we carry that space we will never be lost, no matter how much we risk getting close to small things rather than take a distant view from the boundary of foreignness and familiarity. Beautifully measured piece.

  17. I agree with Susan and the poem was lovely with the falling refrains - not quite a villanelle, but interesting. Liked it a lot!
