THE BUDDHA

courtesy : google image

When those feet tasted the first dust

A deep sorrow misted his heart

A violent storm choked blue flow

The lotus seemed to lost its glow

A deep sorrow misted his heart

All entangled in dream’s meshes

The lotus seemed to lost its glow

The lion’s out snapping the net

All entangled in dream’s meshes

Nettle-desire had broken sting

The lion’s out snapping the net

Paths carved for the brave to follow

Nettle-desire had broken sting

Luster found the old home once lost

Paths carved for the brave to follow

Golden lotus bloomed on His trail

  1. Only follow those lotus paths can we find safety from the lion's claw and nettle stings. Wonderfully smooth writing,

  2. I cannot say I know much about Buddha, apart from what I learned watching a movie or two. I like the image of 'paths carved for the brave to follow'.

  3. I wish I knew more about the Buddha. In your poem I like the last stanza with the paths for brave to follow and the golden lotus blooming.

  4. We all struggle to find the best (right?) path for us.

  5. Some very exotic images here, at least from my perspective. The 'nettle' bit reminded me that I have to cut some more of the stinging nettle from my garden as it is growing out of bounds (and it STINGS!).

  7. I'm not quite sure about the form you used here but it reads smoothly well with the repeated lines. Spot-on about Buddha's ways.

  9. i like the sequence and path you took me on this piece.
the lotus plant if held in one's palm can emerse one into a momentary path of calm.

    gracias

  10. Pantoum is sometimes difficult to keep from sounding sing-songy--nice job here with avoiding that. Your images and language are very original, very intense. I'm sure the Buddha would identify with the sentiments here.

  11. I don't think the trail was meant to be easy, but knowing that lotus will glow again is why, that's why! Acceptance of the path makes it a little easier. This bloom, your poem, makes this very clear. Thank you.

  12. Hello Sumana,
difficult form, the pantoum. I'd forgotten how to do it. You managed beautifully and made the repeats seem so natural.

  18. Glad for the paths for the brave to follow. I think the lotus is happy as well. Back on the farm I delighted in 'teasing' the nettle, playing with it and not getting stung.

  19. this felt like a proverb. I enjoyed its phrases and hopefully if I'll ever get free time I'll try and discern each one this summer. Beautiful and spiritual.

  24. Nice to write about the Buddha. He followed his path - with all the difficulties that entailed. And really in life there's no easy road. Enjoyed this meditative poem.

A deep sorrow misted his heart' ~ thought of being first...about line between gods and human besides immortality ...thoughtful poem of many layers.
