A LEAN ROYAL BENGAL TIGER IN A ZOO

courtesy : google image

Are those dozy eyes of yours

On the edge of dreamy

Sunderbans

In search

Of your ladylove

Are those nimble magic feet of yours

Dreaming of those flash of lightning

That struck

From the grassy sky

Upon the chital

What daring hands

Could put you under those iron bars

Have you groaning with shards of dream

Make your heart burn

On caged nights

What gruesome mind

Could wean you away

From your mother’s leafy lap

And make you a mere toy

Of entertainment

  2. Wow! This is a great response to the challenge, Sumana. It remains faithful to to original in narrative voice, but the issue of captivity you raise is your own - and so topical these days when we hear increasingly of animals being neglected and abused in these prisons.

  4. Whew! What indeed? From such vast connectedness to the little cage in which together you can speak. How would he answer? Force, I suspect.

  7. Wonderful--wonderful. I have a friend who visited Sunderbans, but though I've visited India a few times, I've not been there. Very cool, sad--one senses the heat and sadness. Thanks. K.
