REVENGE OF GAIA
Revenge of Gaia : Artist Susie McMahon |
Your
torso writhes, warps
Blood
oozes out from deep wounds
I
can’t stare at you
Your
abyss-eyes haunt
Drag,
pull me into blackness
My
eternal damnation
Your
heart’s a desert
Yet
no oasis I long for
Ah
your wrath scorches
Had
I ever sung
The
notes you crooned while cradling
Your
soul wouldn’t be crushed
Whew, this poem oozes with darkness, Sumana. "Abyss eyes" definitely describes her look!
ReplyDeleteFrightening sight and poem, Sumana. I guess we brought this upon ourselves, didn't we?
ReplyDeletedark, which i wouldn't expect from you. and i love the ending!
ReplyDeleteDark, mysterious and hard-hitting like the gaze of the doll. Powerful writing.
ReplyDelete-HA
This is a dark accusing writing Sumana.. those eyes ... abyss-eyes... I like that a loy.
ReplyDeleteDark indeed Sumana - very good.
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
I also found that particular doll very enchanting and my thoughts went the same way yours did, about how we are destroying Mother Earth... Hauntingly beautiful in all its sadness!
ReplyDeleteVery powerful emotions emanating here that just open out the magma of a torn and bleeding heart.
ReplyDeleteoh heck... the abyss-eyes .... the heart a desert... surely i wouldn't want to get too close... frightening...
ReplyDeleteThe last stanza is a sad testament to where we are today...
ReplyDeleteYou captured her expression with abyss-eyes and your heart's a desert ~ Such a wrath she has brought upon us ~
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with Real Toads & wishing you Happy Weekend ~
You managed to make it truly spooky as well as touched by strong emotion.
ReplyDeleteI still love this poem--I wonder where yesterday's comment went? If I had entered it when I wrote it ... and that is only a weak example of how omission brings us to the brink of hell, and ultimately a place where we do not plea for rescue. Oh, Gaea! Your death is its own revenge. Your poem and the sculpture could have been conceived together.
ReplyDeleteI found that third stanza especially good. Whew-that artwork is chilling!
ReplyDeleteThis is a powerful invocation of the Earth Mother.
ReplyDeleteHa, I almost wrote a poem about Mother Earth this morning, then my thoughts took another direction. The image of her wounds oozing blood is powerful.
ReplyDeleteYikes! excellent... will she ever forgive us? Can we atone?

Like this Sumana, powerful images here.
ReplyDeleteMysterious and a bit frightening! Well done! ♥
ReplyDeleteThe poem and image go so well together, a deeply stirring write
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping over at my blog
Much love...
Some really effective images here. "your wrath scorches" - very visceral . . . the complexity of the ache laid bare.
ReplyDeleteyikes...you set a rather menacing tone...and i am a bit scared of what happens when mother nature strikes back...
ReplyDeleteThis is not someone (or the feelings that go with it) I would want to encounter. Passionately penned!
ReplyDeleteA dark, pointed finger....Wonderful piece!!
ReplyDeletea fine job at getting below the surface. The poem makes the reader uncomfortable which is just right for the subject matter
ReplyDeletevery mysterious and brooding, a creatively haunting piece to decipher. good job!!!
ReplyDeleteFor me, your closing is especially powerful. Well written!
