Say the Names
Mayavati, Advaita Ashram source
As I utter Jaisalmer
I find
A little girl
Springing from my heart
Running with deer feet on the golden sand
Towards a gorgeously decorated camel
To take her to the medieval golden fort,
Sonar Kella*
Alas! It’s only a dream.
When I say Mayavati
I find
A woman
Stepping out from my heart
Slowly trekking the snowy Himalayan path
Towards a monastery nestled in the lofty
height
Beckoning her with a smile of renunciation
Advaita Ashram**
Alas! It’s only a dream.
I say the names
I listen to myself
I dream
They’ve become my soul
I’ll see them one day
I say the names
Till the heart stops beating
Fort at Jaisalmer source
*A book written by Satyajit Ray, the noted Indian film director. The book, meaning, Golden Fort is a detective story based in Jaisalmer, a place in Rajasthan, the largest state of India. It was also made into a film by Ray. We as kids simply adored the book and also the film.
**It is a monastery of the Ramakrishna Order.
In both the places I could not go in spite of
all the arrangements.

Return
![]() |
The sun sets to rise again
With a leaf shower Fall is back
Dusk songs of homing birds
Fill the evening bowl
Raindrops mingle with sea
Then embrace the cloud
I watch Nature play in cycles
As I walk my twilight path
Towards the dark door
I wonder will I return to light
Once more?

Martyr
![]() |
“Who told you to touch my things?
There should be limits to trespasses
Uh oh don’t try to serenade
You are no bird of paradise
I hate that martyred look of yours
Could you please get lost?”
Her stony feet
Can’t walk out of this hell
Of every second of her life
A sigh escapes

The House
![]() |
Are you afraid
When you hear the groan?
It’s no one else
But the empty house
It remembers
The joyful shouts
Of the happy children
Cycling on its pathway
On each page
of its memory
There are stories
Written in gold
letters
Not all happy
Yet there was no dearth of emotion
Now its garden
is a wilderness
Three brave souls
Who went there to spend a night
Never came out
Nor was there any trace of them
It’s no tourist spot
That you buy ticket
to explore
And enjoy
Beware! Don’t get caught!
The house broods
And lets mystery grow around

A Word That Rose
A Word that Rose—
Though mild - It seemed
Grew - Twisted Twirled and Cold
Became a Thorn that shot a heart
Beyond the Realm of Right—
A Word that Iced a fountain-smile
Like souls in limbo Stays
In pain – regretful sighs
No Earth – nor – Hell – neither Heaven
I used Dickinson’s poem A WindThat Rose for my inspiration

Acceptance
Misery
You are also a gift
Of kindness
From God
As it is from Him
I accept you
From the bottom of my heart
