REST IN PEACE *

REST IN PEACE*

Like a moth thirsting for flame
He yearned for a female-mould
That became his Achilles’ Heel

Abdominoplasty
And hormone replacement over
He defied the world

How boldly he celebrated
His alternate sexuality
In the characters of his latest films

He enjoyed gender fluidity
But the mortal frame
Would not bear with the mess up

He lusted for life
Journey from femininity to androgyny
Ended abruptly

*this is in remembrance of Rituparno Ghosh,
the noted and gifted Bengali film maker who
passed away on May 30, 2013.

  2. Now I am curious about his death...if it was natural or occurred by some other means. I am not familiar with him, but it sounds like he made some excellent films. And yes, as Brian said, may he rest in peace.

    1. Though Rituparno's death was natural following a massive heart attack complications from hormone treatments might have aggravated the situation...we were all shocked at his untimely demise at only 49.

    2. Thanks for the explanation, Sumana. 49 is way too young to die....

  4. Sumana,

A very nice form of bio-tribute to this very young man. Death arrived too soon for his age..

  11. I also am unfamiliar with him. By reading your poem I gather his "search" is what in the end claimed his life. So sad...my sympathies to the sorrowing.

  13. The way you have written his journey can be applied to other stars, as well, who struggled with their identities and were not able to outlast the pain. Gone too soon. Wonderfully written.

  14. So sad his journey ended too soon...so many struggle with who they are in flesh that denies it....

  17. Such a compassionate and loving tribute. A quest for gender fluidity . . . nice description and it seems he had a fine journey.
