WHAT’S COMING

google image

Woe unto the wombs

Of those that gave birth

To the roaming killers

That live on oil, power

And children’s blood

Syria’s children

Feed on bread crumbs

Lying in the dust

Woe unto those

Rotten brain cells

From where birthed

Aggression on pretext

Of giving dreamy life

Man’s children

Feed on bread crumbs

Lying in the dust

Blood dripping from talons

Bomb dropping from wings

Burning burrows render

Rabbits in thousands homeless

Killers circling overhead

God’s children

Feed on bread crumbs

Lying in the dust

Such scenes were enacted before

Oppressors’ bones were scattered in the wind

A little bit impossible endurance needed

Before Time scourges the pestilence

From the shores

All children

Will feed on love

On this crystal globe

  1. To the roaming killers
    That live on oil, power
    And children’s blood

This is the whole problem in a nutshell.

  3. War is a difficult question. Should not evil aggression be fought? How can evil doers be changed? Will not passivity put the aggressor in power?

War is a difficult question. The suffering can be terrible to witness. But life on earth is just a moment, and this life is not the real thing.

  4. The image of children feeding on bread crumbs will stay with me a long time......I love the hope in your closing stanza. People willing, may be it so.

  5. "children Feed on bread crumbs Lying in the dust" a haunting refrain - in a very moving write, Sumana.

  6. Yes, children feeding on bread crumbs, and in some instances literally dirt cakes...love the hope at the end.

  7. This Poem makes me want to grab a drum and drum and drum and drum ... "A little bit impossible endurance needed
    Before Time scourges the pestilence
    From the shores"

  9. … War - starvation, killing. We are capable of so much and yet we seem to never learn.

  11. War is so futile. Peace is the way - when will we learn that? Just as a side note, my poem is based on the diary of Anne Frank!

  12. You tell it like it is!
And gruesome it is too. Nightmare turned reality. Powerful.

  13. Thank you for raising your voice and your pen against such atrocities...we must learn peace before more eat crumbs and lie in the dust.

  14. Nicely written message poem, Sumana. You did really good on the "feed on bread crumbs" reposition. It is better to give the children bread and "let the dogs eat the crumbs."

  15. I love the thought that your last few lines encapsulates. It's hard to imagine that such oppressors started out as babies once...pure and innocent.
