Joy of Poetry

source

And it was at that age….Poetry arrived

In the form of a song

That was being played on the radio

Grandpa stood up….so did everyone in the room

I learnt it was National Anthem

The tune, the call to wake up,

To seek blessing from the motherland

Swung each blood cell of the teeny tiny me

It made me a child of joy in an instant

Such power dwells in words

The first line is taken from Pablo Neruda’s Poetry

  4. Yes, words have tremendous power and when they're sung and music plays, they can raise emotions. I like how you describe how your family's respect for the anthem and the song, gave you such joy.

  5. There is power in words. I know here in the states, this is one of the earliest poems that we learn. I guess too it could make you feel grown up to be doing what the adults are as well. The earliest I remember beyond Seuss, it Shel Silverstein.

  12. Such a lovely remembrance. I think, like others, the poetics of Dr. Seuss, & silly limericks were how poetry arrived at my threshold. The Neruda line is stellar; nice use of it.

It imbues that feeling of wanting to do good for the country. The Anthem can invoke the patriotic feel.
