Terrorist

source

The seed is deeply buried in heart

A time will come when it will burst

What will it bring forth, a song?

A rose? But only a dream of ammunition

A time will come when it will burst

Into language unknown

Nurtured by scorching heat of hatred

What will it bring forth, a song?

Worded by lethal thorny prick

Crooned by voice that can’t sing of

A rose? But only a dream of ammunition

The seed has cracked the earth

And paused eyeing us all

  1. Oh yes, how can we stop, that growth of hatred, hardly with more ammunition I think, a world of terror is way to real these days.

  2. Excellent! Unfortunately too many of those seeds have burst! I really liked the last two lines...the seed cracking the earth is symbolic of ALL that is happening today. And yes, sometimes I wonder just which eyes are watching.

  3. I hope that seed will not be blooming to hatred but rather of peace ~

But its scary to think it would be a dream of ammunition and war ~

  4. The imagery is very striking and feels very accurate, Sumana. I particularly like "Into language unknown/Nurtured by scorching heat of hatred".

  5. It really seems tome that there is a pandemic of hatred worldwide. You ask some hard questions.

  6. You balance the violence here with soft hues and word choice that makes for an intricate piece. Well done!

    Separating Child and Mother..
    Losing Heart of empathy..
    Garden of Love dies..

    Separating Child and Mother..
    Often Electronic devices..
    raising children..

    Losing Heart of empathy
    eyes become screen
    instead of human..

    Garden of Love Dies..
    Human becomes gun..
    Death becomes human..

  9. A powerful extended metaphor ... A seed deeply buried: though one would like to belief that seeds grow into something beautiful - sadly, that is not always the case.

  10. Dang, you nailed the sad reality of our times. Why aren't the seeds of beauty being planted instead of those of hatred. Chilling, really.

  11. Beautifully expressed – and how fearsome and strange indeed is the phenomenon.

  12. This is so powerfully and lyrically expressed, Sumana. One of my favourites of yours. Your words speak truth.......the seed born of hatred , "the seed has cracked the earth and paused, eyeing us all." Shiveringly good.

  13. Weeds burst from seeds too, & deadly nightshade & opium poppies.
Incredibly clever & well crafted piece, topical yet philosophic; congrats, going way beyond the form, which you rocked, into that thin-aired strata of near greatness.

  14. The seeds burst out of a necessity of self preservation. Pity many just find it hard to fight back!

  15. This perpetual pain of religious and territorial conflict will be the death of us all. Sadly for most of us we are but cannon fodder or innocent victims while others play their games with us.

  16. Ah, such a topical subject - one which I'm sure we all want to understand, but fail to know what motivates such unreasonable hatred in a world of beauty.

  17. powerful stuff, Sumana.
yes, hatred is a seed buried in the heart. what else do we get when a kid is taught to fire a gun?

  18. An insightful poem - it made me feel that terrorism is both and internal and external struggle - we may hurt others but i wonder if in some cases we are really fighting with ourselves

  26. You address a great evil in our world with unflinching candor. May the time come when it is no longer necessary to write such poems. Until then, write on!

  27. The seed has cracked the earth.....and broken hearts and ended lives. You wrote of this horror in such a musical form that only accentuates the cruelty of this. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura

  29. "Worded by lethal thorny prick
Crooned by voice that can’t sing of
    A rose?"
And why has that seed no other song? I have come to believe it is because such youth feel they will never have a chance to live. We have to be sure that there is another dream than "ammunition"--let eyes fall on possibility/opportunity.

  30. That seed that eyes us all is a chilling, yet a very realistic image.

  31. A very stark juxtaposition in the first stanza: "a rose" begins the line, and "ammunition" ends it. Very jarring imagery.
